Eritrean president visits Ethiopia’s flagship Chinese-built industrial park

Mr Isaias Afwerki, Eritrean President paid a visit to textile and apparel manufacturing companies inside Ethiopia’s flagship Chinese-built Hawassa Industrial Park.

According to Mr Fitsum Arega, chief of staff of the Ethiopian Prime Minister’s office, Ethiopian Prime Minister Mr Abiy Ahmed said “Hawassa, an emerging industrial base, is a symbol of Ethiopia’s national enterprise,” he said, “together, Ethiopia and Eritrea will work to realize the immense potential of our two nations.”

Hawassa Industrial Park after its inauguration attracted world class textile and apparel companies to the country and is considered as a model for the construction of other industrial zones across the country. It was built by CCECC, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation.

Once the park starts operating at its full potential, the Ethiopian government has projected to generate approx. US$1 billion revenue from it.
