Based on the special package formulated by PTI textile policy, the government in waiting should take steps for its immediate implementation.
Mr Shabbir Hussain Chawla President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI), at the meeting of textiles said that textile is the main component of the national economy and the previous government failed to support the textile exporters to maintain their presence in the international markets which resulted in a decrease in exports from $26 billion to $18 billion which despite the pressing demand of textile sector plunged the national economy in deep crisis as the government only took cosmetic steps to satisfy the business community. Also, the regional competitors including Bangladesh have captured our market with textile exports of $30 billion. He further pointed out that import export gap had also further widened posing a serious threat to the economic viability of Pakistan.
He appreciated the resolve of PTI to restore the textile sector on sound footings and said that renowned businessman Mr Zafar Iqbal Sarwar had formulated the PTI textile policy which was dually presented and appreciated by its Chairman Imran Khan. Mr Zafar Iqbal Sarwar should be appointed as textile advisor to ensure necessary measures are taken to revive the textile sector. He further demanded incentives to textile exporters same as of the regional competitor countries.
