Specialty cellulosic fibers are a significant contribution to make the textile industry more sustainable. Lenzing has formed a joint venture with Duratex, a recognized leader in sustainable forestry management, to build the largest single line DWP (dissolving wood pulp) plant in Brazil. An investigation will be conducted to construct a 450,000 t DWP plant. For future operations, both the companies have secured a plantation of 43000 hectares that will be providing the FSC certified biomass. The plantation is fully in line with the wood and pulp sourcing policy of Lenzing.
Lenzing and Duratex will be holding 51% and 49% shares of the joint venture respectively. The joint venture investment is expected to be above US$ 1 billion. This joint venture will be supplying the entire volume of dissolving wood pulp to the Lenzing Group.
