New thermal vacuum pyrolysis system for Industry 4.0

To meet industry 4.0 requirements Schwing technologies will present an updated version at the ITMA Asia in Shanghai. The manufacturers have added new components to the thermal vacuum pyrolysis to clean the polymer contaminated tools and machine parts. The new components in the vacuum includes touch panel with network connection as well as revised fault monitoring concept, digital system documentation in Schwing cloud, internal data connection for data mining and fully electronic flow measurement for catalyst supply air and a process signal light.

Digitization and network connection
The updated version brings larger and more intuitive C70 touch panels with network connectivity. The control elements representing one to one PC interfaces will allow operators to control them directly from their devices without restriction. The OPC UA interface will ensure the reliable display and integrated fault monitoring concepts supporting the systems predictive maintenance.

The fully electronic flow meter for catalyst supply air records the data and automatically transfers values to the control unit. There the flow rates are checked and possible fault messages are generated as well as a multi colored signal light which informs the operators about operating statuses as well as providing good overview of the system status from a distance of several meters. Schwing also offers the option of automated system opening on the device.

System cleaning process
Depending in the size, cleaning material and type of polymer the system removes the contamination within 8-30 hours. In an electrically heated vacuum the system automatically cleans the chambers whose temperature is measured directly on the items being heated.

“The process initially heats up slowly and gently, with the aim of melting off and draining most of the adhering polymers. The remaining polymer decomposes at around 450 degrees C. Oxidation subsequently removes any residual carbon. Sophisticated sensor technology controls this fully automated cleaning process. Possible inorganic residues are easily removed by a brief secondary treatment,” the company concludes.
