PRGMEA demands review of textile policies

The official of PRGMEA, here by on 4th of September 2017, suggested that; “The formulation of sector-wise policies is the only remedial solution to avoid decline and stabilize textile exports.”

While talking to the media sources the central chairman of PRGMEA, Mr Ijaz A Khokhar said that; “We are pressing the government to review its textile policy to enable the sector attain the targets,” further added is that the government must also take steps for removal of hurdles that are working as a barrier to the exports of textile sector.

“We understand that formulation of sector-wise policies is the only remedial solution to avoid decline and to stabilize the exports”, said the officials. Mr Khokhar said that because of the unavailability of the latest fabric locally, the garment sector is currently having a limited product line for the export market. The foreign buyers are demanding for new garments on the G3 and G4 as well as technical fabric raw material which are not available or produced by the Pakistani weavers.

More than 30% of the cash flow was blocked since a long time and this is done in the shape of sales tax refunds and custom rebate. This is also damaging the cash liquidity. He also said that; “Our value-added products are unable to fetch high value due to poor packaging and, under these circumstances, there is a need to set up a product and packaging centre for ensuring better packaging.”

At present, there are 125 exporters of martial art apparel in Sialkot and the city is earning $400 million, and there is a need to make further efforts to boost the exports to up to 1 billion dollar by the year 2020.

The chairman of PRGMEA also said that the research and development is not strong due to the high utility cost and the allied factors. To bring it to a better state the government must announce special research and development support funds for innovation of new products as well as up gradation of workplace.
