Stagnant rainwater causes cotton plant death

Punjab agriculture department has advised the cotton and fruit growers to ensure proper care of the plants during the hot weather to get good quality produce.

To keep the land temperature moderate, mulching is essential and it also results in minimum water wastage. Big plants need to be watered with an interval of 10-12 days whereas, small plants 5-6 days.

Rainwater has a salutary influence on rice, fodder crops and cotton but if it remains stagnant in the field for more than 24 hours, it can have adverse effects on the cotton crop.

Stagnant rainwater in the cotton field for more than 48 hours, results in the death of cotton plants. Hence, the farmers should right away drain the water out from the cotton field.
