The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, Ministry of Commerce, Government of Pakistan has announced that the 2nd Edition of TEXPO will be held at Lahore Expo Center, Johar Town, Lahore during 11-14 April, 2019.

TEXPO Pakistan is being held in Lahore to give an impetus to the textile industry based in the northern part of the country especially in Lahore and Faisalabad. The Textile industry enjoys an almost 60% share in Pakistan’s total exports. Pakistan is also one of the very few countries of the world which houses the entire value chain of textile products. Therefore, TEXPO, which is TDAP’s first ever product specific exhibition, has been conceptualized as the biggest platform for the promotion of Pakistan’s most significant export sector i.e. Textiles.

The 1st edition of TEXPO was launched in 2016 in which delegates from 52 countries across the globe participated and more than 700 specialized B2B meetings were organized between international buyers and exhibitors in the sub categories of Textile which included Cotton Yarn, Fabrics, Knitwear, Readymade Garments, Towels, Hosiery, Leather Garments and Accessories, Handicrafts, Bed Linen etc.

Mr Muhammad Shoaib Zafar, Commercial Counsellor of Pakistan High Commission London told that a business-cum-textile delegation from United Kingdom (UK) has confirmed its participation in TEXPO 2019.

He expressed the hope that the TEXPO 2019 Lahore would attract a large number of potential buyers including from the UK, for the promotion of Pakistan’s textile exports globally. Pakistan’s Commercial Counsellor said that during the year 2018, Pakistan’s exports to United Kingdom (UK) touched Pounds (£) 1.27 billion mark, showing an increase of around 2 percent as compared to 2017.

He said due to proactive efforts of Pakistan High Commission, the British government had given a commitment and understanding that in the Post-Brexit, Pakistan would continue to enjoy similar market access which it was currently enjoying under GSP Plus.

Mr Shoaib Zafar further said that the UK was an important trading partner of Pakistan. It was the third largest destination of the Pakistani exports globally and the top destination within the European Union (EU) countries.

At TEXPO the products in focus are Art silk and synthetic textile, Garments (Fashion/ Traditional/ Foundation/ Leather/ Readymade/ Accessories), Knitwear and Hosiery, Terry Towels, Home textile/ Bed wear/ Liners, Handicraft (Textile), Knitted or Crocheted Fabrics, Tulle Lace, Embroidery, Raw Cotton, Cloth / Yarn / Thread, Technical Textile, Textile Fabrics Woven / Unwoven, Textile Machinery, Tents & Canvas, Carpets, Other Textile Products, Sportswear and others.

It is hoped that the regional launch of TEXPO under the banner of Emerging Pakistan will mark a major milestone in TDAP’s efforts for export promotion and trade enhancement. Ministry of Commerce will be inviting importers of textiles, international buying houses, global brands in the event, which would be an ideal show case of the strength of the Pakistani textiles.
