Hohenstein develops textile finish with sensory cooling effect

Scientists at the Hohenstein Institute have been developing and analysing a textile finish that could provide a sensory cooling effect as part of an IGF research project.

Sensory cooling is the term used to describe a chemically induced sensation of coolness on the skin, due to the triggering of cold receptors in the nerve ends close to the surface of the skin. This is different from the cooling effect normally achieved by physical processes, where the skin is cooled mainly by the evaporation of water, the Institute explains. In their research project, the scientists at Hohenstein have developed a finish for textiles that creates a sensory cooling effect.
