BUCHA BIO INC. oversubscribed to raise $550K as part of the New York-based company’s latest fundraising. Investors include New Climate Ventures, Beni VC, Lifely VC, QKZ Design, MicroVentures, angels Cary Pinkowski, Nicholas Valeriano, Fiona, and George Sobek.
Bucha Bio creates novel biomaterials grown by fermenting infinitely renewable bacterial-nanocellulose. Strands of natural fibers interlock to form high-performance textiles & composites with advanced performance and luxuriously soft hand feel. They are produced in weeks rather than months or years, used in premium applications instead of animal leather, polyurethane, latex, vinyl, epoxy, and so much more.
Mr. Eric Rubenstein, the Managing Partner of New Climate Ventures, said, “We are excited to partner with Bucha Bio as they advance the fashion and sustainable materials industry with their innovative and eco-friendly biomaterials, furthering our portfolio-wide mission of carbon reduction and removal across the globe.”
MIRAI™ Biotextile is a luxury biocomposite made from bacterial nanocellulose and 100% plant-based components. Bucha Bio’s team created an utterly biodegradable textile that enables the next generation of designers to create products for a more sustainable future. Mirai™ is water-resistant, scratch-resistant, sunlight-resistant, flame-resistant, and others.
The key highlights of the MIRAI™ Biotextile include:
- Tensile strength 37 N/mm²
- Flex bally test 120,000+ Cycles
- Water contact angle 90°
Growing Bucha Biomaterials consumes little water and emits no greenhouse gases or toxic waste products. Grown in just a few weeks, combined immediately with plant-based ingredients, faster than a typical run of petrochemical-based textiles and significantly faster than the years it takes to raise an animal to suitable slaughter weight.
