The Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Foundation has launched new Emissions Guidelines aimed at reducing environmental impact within the global textile and apparel industry. These guidelines, unveiled on August 25, 2024, provide a comprehensive framework for companies to monitor, manage, and minimize air and water emissions across their supply chains.
The Emissions Guidelines are part of ZDHC’s broader Roadmap to Zero program, which seeks to eliminate harmful chemical discharges from textile production by promoting sustainable practices. The guidelines cover a range of emissions, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs), greenhouse gases (GHGs), and particulate matter, which are commonly released during textile manufacturing processes such as dyeing, printing, and finishing.
ZDHC’s new standards are designed to support brands, manufacturers, and suppliers in meeting increasingly stringent environmental regulations and responding to growing consumer demand for sustainable products.
They outline specific limits for various pollutants and provide best practices for monitoring and controlling emissions, helping companies achieve compliance and reduce their environmental footprint.
Frank Michel, Executive Director of ZDHC, emphasized the importance of these guidelines in fostering a more sustainable textile industry.
