Air cargo helping RMG growth in Bangladesh

Air cargo has emerged as a major source of exporting fashion brands speedily from Bangladesh, prompting Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to plead with the government to further enhance the capacity and efficiency of air cargo handling.

At the Bangladesh Aviation Summit 2023 in Dhaka a panel discussion on unleashing the potential of Bangladesh the textile industry official said that the higher growth vision of Bangladesh would be complemented by an export-oriented industrial sector as its import exports and investment are keeping growth high. They require capacity expansion of infrastructure.

He praised the visionary leadership of Bangladesh Prime Minister Hasina Wajid for the remarkable development of infrastructure that has paved the way for building a more prosperous Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Aviation Summit 2023 was organized by the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry of Bangladesh, in collaboration with the UK and France, with the support of renowned aircraft manufacturer Airbus.


The official further said in the current fast fashion era less lead time is preferred and air cargo that delivers goods speedily has played an important role in the growth of the RMG industry in Bangladesh. The dependency on air shipment is increasing with the passage of time, he added.





Sea freight still accounts for most of the import and export trade, but the role of air cargo is on the rise as it meets the demand of the buyers and lead time. Then there are some high-valued fashion and sensitive products that must be delivered quickly by air.



Mahbubul Anam, managing director of Expo Freight Ltd, and Bernard de l’Estoile, freighter marketing director of Airbus Commercial also spoke at the discussion.
