BGMEA receives dual honors from New York state for leadership in sustainable apparel

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has received two distinguished recognitions from the New York State Assembly and the New York State Senate, marking an international acknowledgment of Bangladesh’s progress as a leader in sustainable and responsible apparel manufacturing.

The New York State Assembly Citation was awarded for BGMEA’s exceptional participation in the 4th New York International Trade Fair and Chamber Expo 2025, held at the Marriott Marquis, Times Square. Organized jointly by the Greater New York Chamber of Commerce, the Bangladesh-USA Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BUCCI), and the New York International Trade Fair Inc., the event showcased Bangladesh’s role in the evolving global supply chain.

A separate Certificate of Recognition from the New York State Senate, signed by Senator Luis R. Sepúlveda, commended BGMEA’s “visionary leadership in strengthening Bangladesh-US trade relations” and its promotion of sustainable business practices. BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan personally received the award during the event.

The fair’s inauguration by Kelly Loeffler, Administrator of the US Small Business Administration, and the participation of senior US officials, business leaders, and diplomats underscored Bangladesh’s growing trade influence.

These dual honors symbolize a global endorsement of Bangladesh’s RMG sector as a benchmark for ethical production, innovation, and environmental responsibility—affirming the country’s transition from a volume-based exporter to a sustainability-driven leader in global fashion manufacturing.
