Cambodia Sets Ambitious Goal to Graduate from LDC Status by 2029

Cambodia is embarking on an ambitious journey to graduate from its designation as a Least Developed Country (LDC) by the year 2029. Prime Minister Hun Sen announced the strategic plan, emphasizing the need for the nation to bolster its economic resilience, reduce dependency on foreign aid, and enhance the overall quality of life for its citizens.

The strategy is multifaceted, targeting key sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, and services. The government plans to boost industrial output and promote sustainable agricultural practices to ensure food security and increase export potential. Furthermore, there will be a strong focus on improving the service sector, particularly in tourism and digital services, to attract more international visitors and investments.

Infrastructure development is another cornerstone of the strategy. Investments in roads, ports, and telecommunications will be prioritized to facilitate trade and connectivity. Education and workforce development will also be critical components, with efforts to enhance skills and knowledge to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global market.

To support these initiatives, the Cambodian government is looking to strengthen its trade relationships with existing partners and explore new markets. Attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) is a top priority, as the government seeks to create a more conducive environment for businesses. This includes implementing favorable policies, reducing bureaucratic hurdles, and ensuring regulatory transparency.
