When COVID-19 broke out in Chennai, the natural road meandered through a bleak landscape, to Oh Scrap! Madras. This startup promotes a fashion brand that is sustainable, without waste, and recycles waste cloth into arty-crafty and utilitarian goods. By making reusable fabric masks, the Chennai-based company would only examine next to its specialization. And the cotton cloth mask is what is made by his concise tailor team, who works from home.
There is a profit that is ready to be parked nudging the founders of Oh Scrap! Madras – a Chennai-based fashion designer Priyanjoli Basu and the demography of Dominique Lopez – is heading for this initiative.
The tailor always works remotely. It has a leftover supply of cotton cloth. Startup upcycling sources the remaining fabric from garment exports and sewing units, but the lockdown has no time to go looking for its bity fabric. So, the cotton fabric that is already available is removing the remnants of imperfections in continuing with the transition plan.
“Regarding small businesses, this is a challenging time, but it is even more difficult for small businesses that are driven by sustainability as we are, because they are very niche. “This initiative will certainly help our young startups survive, but there is a social component to it, and that is the biggest consideration of all,” explained Dominique.
“We ensure compliance with guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for the fabric mask manufacture.
This is a three-layer mask, and we only use cotton cloth with the required thickness. Many leftover fabrics will be made of synthetic materials – in fact, 80 p.
c. that – but we don’t use it in making this mask. The cotton cloth is washed clean after being sourced, and before shipping, the mask is washed and sanitized, “Dominique said.
With the lock in place, they realize that they have to do some quick, smart and safe sources, when they run out of stock of cotton cloth.
