PM announces to establish Pakistan Cotton Authority to increase cotton production

Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan, conducted a meeting to increase cotton production across the country to provide sustainable cotton supply to the textile sector of Pakistan in the future. He stressed that there is a strong need to increase the productivity per acre, which can be achieved through adaptation to the latest technology and farming tools.

He said that the government would provide the farmers with subsidized fertilizers, agricultural tools, and high-quality seeds that are inevitable for better production.

Imran Khan said that:
“their government had launched the Kisan Card, and all necessary measurements should be taken to provide genuine relief to the farmers at ground level. He also highlighted that new amendments are being made to protect farmer rights, keeping all stakeholders’ opinions and suggestions intact.“

The government is also trying to provide maximum facilities to the fertilizer sector to avoid shortages. The information shared during the meeting indicated that currently, Pakistan has a cotton stock of 4.17 million tons. The government has already subsidized the fertilizer sector with 15.

5 billion rupees. PM said to increase fertilizer production capacity with the installation of new units in the country.



Farmers, textile spinners, and other stakeholders applaud the initiative as Pakistan, an agricultural and textile country, needs special attention and such initiatives to improve cotton production. It is hoped that with the proper steps taken, the country will decrease the gap in cotton production and consumption within the country.
