The Textile Institute marks 100 years with a global expansion drive

Fresh from the success of its 63rd Annual Conference held in Porto, Portugal from October 7–10, The Textile Institute (TI) is preparing to celebrate a major milestone at ITMA Asia + CITME in Singapore later this month. Marking 100 years since it was granted its Royal Charter by King George V in 1925, the Institute is using the global exhibition, taking place from October 28–31, as an opportunity to strengthen international partnerships and welcome new Corporate Members to its growing global network.

At Stand B105 in Hall 8, TI will exhibit as a reciprocal member of the British Textile Machinery Association (BTMA), reflecting a long-standing partnership that has recently grown even stronger. This collaboration is now further reinforced by the appointment of BTMA CEO Jason Kent as TI’s new Commercial Vice President, bringing fresh industry insight to the Institute’s leadership. According to Kent, the joint presence in Singapore highlights how enduring partnerships can strengthen the entire textile industry. He emphasizes that Corporate Membership of The Textile Institute offers access to a worldwide network of professionals, advanced research, and strategic benefits valued at over £10,000 annually.

Membership in TI provides a wide range of advantages, including international promotion, access to high-level networking events and training, involvement in industry-led research projects, professional recognition through chartered qualifications, and full access to TI’s publications and R&D resources. CEO Stephanie Dick notes that as the only global professional body in the textile sector with a Royal Charter, TI is committed to equipping professionals for the future through impactful events and training programmes. She adds that TI, in collaboration with its Corporate Members, is actively working to close skills gaps, provide practical training solutions, and engage global audiences.

TI President Charles Wood highlights the growing relevance of technical textiles in emerging industries such as energy, data storage, future mobility, and advanced infrastructure. He describes this as an exciting time for the sector and encourages both multinationals and SMEs to engage with TI as a neutral, not-for-profit platform that supports growth and innovation. As the Institute expands its influence across Asia and beyond, it continues to invite new Corporate Members to share their expertise and help shape the Institute’s future direction.

Founded in Manchester in 1910, The Textile Institute has always maintained an international focus. Now serving members in over 60 countries, it supports professionals across the entire textile supply chain. Jason Kent concludes by expressing his anticipation for new connections and collaborations at ITMA Asia + CITME 2025, where TI looks forward to exploring opportunities with forward-thinking companies from around the world.
