Zonal Chairman (APTMA) Hamid Zaman withdraws post-arrest bail plea

Business tycoon and Chairman All Pakistan Textile Mills Association Punjab has been denied post arrest bail by a local court in Lahore. He was arrested in a prohibited funding case on October 7.

The APTMA leadership has expressed concern on the arrest of their office bearer and important member. The order of dismissal of bail application was passed by the additional District and Sessions Judge Ghulam Rasool after FIA prosecutor Munam Bashir Chaudhry requested to dismiss the bail plea.

The development took place after a special court granted pre arrest bail to Imran Khan in the same case in Islamabad and directed him to deposit Rs100000 as surety bond. Senior advocate Khawaja Haris appeared on behalf of Hamid Zaman for his bail. He argued that Hamid Zaman was being victimized on political grounds. The FIA prosecutor argued that the accused had not applied for bail before the proper forum, which was Banking Court. The court dismissed the bail as withdrawn after accepting the plea of FIA prosecutor and stated that the court has no jurisdiction to hear the bail of the accused.

This case was registered in response to a letter of the Election Commission of Pakistan to take action as per law when the ECP had found that the matter was in contravention of Article 6(3) of the Political Parties Order 2002 (PPO). The ECP also directed to initiate any other action under the law in light of this order of the commission, including forwarding the case to the federal government.
