Anakaputhur saree for Thai princess

Indian artisans are keeping their tradition of producing sarees with Anakaputhur which is a natural fiber that comes from the stem of the banana plant. In Chennai, women recently worked for weeks to produce a saree for a Thai princess.

The saree ordered by Indian Vitiver Network is to be presented to Thai princes Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at the 7th Vetiver Symposium and Exhibition being held from May 29 to June 1.

The exhibition is being held after three years and the princess will inaugurate it. The organizers decided to give this special gift to the princess on this occasion.

Anakaputhur Is a special fiber also known as Musa textilis or Abaca. The fiber is extracted from the outer layer of the stem, which is composed of long, thin fibers that are very strong and durable. Anakaputhur is commonly used in weaving sarees, which are traditional Indian garments that are made by draping a long piece of fabric around the body.
