India has distinctive advantages due to a well-established textile and garment industry, easy access to raw materials, and a large labor force.
Indian Deputy Textile Minister Darshana Jardosh said this at a textile conference organized by India’s apex trade association, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
“Due to these advantages, India can become a leading destination for sourcing textiles and apparel,” Jardosh added.
“We have an opportunity to garner 14-15 percent of the global textile and garments trade and in the process also create an additional 50-60 lakhs job opportunities,” the minister stated.
Dashana Jardosh also observed that the worldwide textiles and clothing trade has witnessed several ups and downs in the last ten years, primarily from geographical and social factors.
The Indian textile and clothing sector contributes around 2.3 percent to India’s GDP, 12 percent to exports, and 13 percent to industrial production.
