Cotton yarn prices in South India have remained steady despite several challenges, including weak demand and uncertainties in export markets. In key markets like Mumbai and Tiruppur, prices have largely remained unchanged over the past few weeks.
For instance, in Mumbai, the price for 60 count carded yarn (both warp and weft) was reported at ₹1,400–1,420 per 5 kg, while 30 count combed yarn in Tiruppur was priced around ₹258–262 per kg.
However, the market has been under pressure due to labor shortages in Mumbai and a decline in export orders from important markets like the US and Bangladesh. These export challenges have significantly impacted overall market sentiment, leading to slower movements in trade.
Despite these issues, the market has remained stable with no significant drop in prices.
In Gujarat, the scenario is slightly different, as cotton prices have risen due to limited stocks and stronger support from the ICE cotton market.
Traders are hopeful that the upcoming summer garment season will revive demand, especially in the domestic market. The hope is that increased consumption in the textile sector, driven by the upcoming peak season, will provide the necessary boost to the market.
As the summer demand picks up, market participants are cautiously optimistic about a recovery in both local and export markets.
