Chinese Sunrise Group launches $140 million integrated textile complex in Fez-Meknes

Sunrise Group has officially launched a $140 million integrated textile project in Fez, reinforcing Morocco’s ambition to position itself as a major textile manufacturing hub serving European and global markets.

The 20-hectare industrial complex, led by Sunrise subsidiary Euwen Textiles, will cover the entire textile value chain, including yarn spinning, weaving, dyeing, printing, and ready-to-wear garment manufacturing. The facility is designed with renewable energy systems and advanced water recycling, aligning with growing sustainability expectations from international buyers.

The Fez project is expected to generate approximately 3,000 direct jobs and 1,500 indirect jobs, providing a significant boost to employment and industrial activity in the Fez–Meknes region. Beyond job creation, the investment is set to strengthen Morocco’s domestic textile capacity and deepen vertical integration within the sector.

This marks Sunrise Group’s second large-scale investment in Morocco, following the launch of its first project in Skhirat earlier in 2025. The expansion underscores Morocco’s growing attractiveness to Asian textile investors seeking nearshoring opportunities close to Europe.
Morocco’s textile and apparel industry remains a cornerstone of the national economy, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern industrial production. The sector comprises over 1,700 companies, employs around 220,000 workers—predominantly women—and produces roughly 1 billion garment pieces annually. Exports exceed $4 billion, mainly destined for European markets including Spain, France, the UK, and Germany.
Key competitive advantages include geographic proximity to Europe, extensive free trade agreements (EU, US, AfCFTA), and strong government support under the Industrial Acceleration Plan.

With the Sunrise investment in Fez, Morocco further consolidates its role as a strategic, sustainable textile manufacturing platform bridging Asia, Europe, and Africa.
