A decline of 4.08% recorded as India’s garment export fall to 5.50bn in 2019-20

According to the Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA) statistics, there’s a been a declined recorded in the India’s total garments exports by a whopping 4.08 per cent to ₹1,09,844 crore ($15.50 billion) in fiscal 2019-20 when put in contrast with the previous fiscal in which it was ₹1,12,828 crore ($16.16 billion). According to an official statement from them, in 2019-20, the knitwear exports came down to ₹53,199 crore ($7.51 billion) against ₹54,692 crore ($7.82 billion) in 2018-19.

President of the Tiruppur Exporters’ Association, Raja M Shanmugham disclosed in the union’s annual meeting that the out of total manufactured product exports of ₹2,12,863 crore — a share of 23.6 per cent, textile products and textile exports, both coming from Tamil Nadu was worth ₹50,192 crore in fiscal in 2019-20. Moreover, on a whole level, the total export if the knitted garments coming from the state was worth ₹27,780 crore, having a share of 13 per cent.

In 2018-19 record, Tiruppur’s knitwear exports decreased to ₹27,280 crore in 2019-20 against ₹27,650 crore. In second place was Delhi, the third was Haryana and lastly, Karnataka came at third position in knitwear exports with figures of ₹5,284 crore, ₹4,227 crore and ₹2,823 crore respectively, said a TEA press release. It is expected of the Tiruppur garment cluster’s exports to target around ₹24,000 crore in the current fiscal by TEA.
