After the UK and Canada, Australia has now assured Bangladesh, that it will continue to receive duty-free status in exports of apparel, after Bangladesh graduates from least developed country (LDC) status in 2026.
Earlier this month, both UK and Canada had extended duty-free status to exports of garments from Bangladesh, post LDC.
An official of Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade provided this assurance during a visit of Bangladesh clothing exporters to Australia.
Australia currently accounts for a very small pie of Bangladeshi garment exports which totaled $1.16 billion, in the fiscal ending on June 30, 2023.
The clothing exporters also hosted meetings and seminars in various Australian cities with Aussie retailers and garment brands during their visit, in a bid to boost exports.
