Bangladesh earned US $47.39 billion in textiles and garments exports in 2023, an increase of $1.68 billion or 3.67 percent over 2022.
As per data from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), of these export earnings, woven apparel and knitwear exports stood at $46.99 billion, and home textile exports were 1.09 billion.
“The rise in clothing exports has been attributed to knitwear exports, which grew 7.47 percent year over year in 2023, while woven apparel overseas shipments declined 0.81 percent,” reports stated.
According to the EPB data, 2023 started with a modest export growth in the first two months but declined in the next two months to increase again between May and September 2023.
However, garment exports again turned negative in the last quarter of 2023 compared to 2022.
For December 2023 alone, the South Asian country exported clothing totaling $4.56, down 2.35 percent over the same month of 2022.
