Inditex says gradually reducing purchase of clothes from Myanmar

The reports of violation of workers’ rights in Myanmar and continued exploitation despite various warnings have forced many major brands to stop sourcing their orders from the military rules country.

In this regard, Zara owner Inditex the number one brand in the world has recently told Reuters that it is in the process of stopping purchases from Myanmar. Inditex attributed this decision to the pressure of the campaign launched by the global workers’ union Industrial and urged the apparel companies to divest from the country.

In an email to a media group, Inditex has informed that it is in the process of a phased but responsible exit from Myanmar, following IndustriALL’s call, for a boycott of products from the vogue country. A company spokesperson revealed that as a result of this decision the company is reducing the number of its active manufacturers in Myanmar.
