The Indonesian Textile Association (API) has welcomed the move by the Indonesian government which bans online sales of textiles and clothing through social media platforms like TikTok.
Chairman of API Jemmy Kartiwa Sastraatmaja however, said that social media sales and ecommerce sales should be treated separately to maintain the trade ecosystem.
“The government’s efforts to separate the two platforms will have a positive effect on the domestic textile and garment industry,” Sastraatmaja added.
The API Chairman further said that customs inspection of imported textiles, garments and apparel accessories must be shifted back to the borders, rather than done once they are downloaded from the containers.
