The International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) has announced the winners of its 2024 Sustainability and International Cooperation Awards, celebrating exceptional contributions to sustainability and cross-border collaborations in the textile industry. This year’s awards recognized companies that have demonstrated outstanding innovation, commitment to environmental stewardship, and efforts in fostering international partnerships to advance sustainable practices.
The Sustainability Award was presented to Lenzing AG, an Austrian company known for its sustainable fibers, including TENCEL™ and LENZING™ ECOVERO™. Lenzing was honored for its innovative closed-loop production process that significantly reduces water and chemical usage, setting new benchmarks in eco-friendly fiber production. The company’s initiatives have helped lower the textile industry’s carbon footprint and promote sustainable raw materials, earning them top recognition in this category.
Meanwhile, the International Cooperation Award went to a joint project by H&M Group, WWF, and Solidaridad, which aims to improve water management and reduce pollution in the textile supply chain in South Asia. This collaborative effort has successfully implemented water stewardship practices across multiple textile mills, impacting over 100,000 workers and reducing water usage by 30%. The project exemplifies the power of international cooperation in tackling complex environmental challenges and setting a model for other industry players.
ITMF President, Peter Gnägi, praised the winners for their leadership and impact, stating, “These awards highlight the incredible efforts made by companies and organizations to drive positive change in the textile industry. Their work not only advances sustainability but also inspires others to take action towards a more responsible and collaborative future.”
The awards underscore the importance of innovation and cooperation in achieving a more sustainable textile industry, encouraging further advancements and global partnerships.
