Nike unleashes its new winter collection shoes made from recycled wool

Nike Sportswear will also be releasing a “White” edition of their latest Air Max 90 equipped with recycled wool for the winter months.

This Nike Air Max 90 features a White textile upper with leather overlays highlighted with Crimson accents and recycled wool on the Swooshes, tongues, and heels. A White midsole atop a speckled outsole made of regrind rubber completes the design.

Air Max 90 M2Z2 is to be released on January 7th at select retailers and Nike.com. The retail price tag is set at USD 140.

Recycling your shoes might not be as difficult as you think. A few years ago, in 2008, Nike partnered with the National Recycling Corporation to create the Reuse-a-Shoe program. Under this program, Nike takes old athletic shoes of any brand and grinds them into a material used to resurface athletic fields, courts, tracks, and playgrounds

The idea of using recycled materials in leather products, footwear, and apparel manufacturing is growing. This is mainly due to an elevated public awareness of the need to increase recycling efforts and reduce materials that are ultimately destined for landfill. The most effective method of achieving these outcomes remains a matter of debate; however, a significant amount of recent attention has been given to the circular economy’s ideas.

Thus, using recycled wool, Nike is showing its commitment to sustainability
