PCMEA sets forward some conditions for the government for the recovery of the carpet industry

During a PCMEA circle committee meeting, a call for aid was called out by the Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMEA) as Riaz Ahmed, the senior vice president appealed to the government to provide special relief for the carpet industry to help increase the volume of exports through the sea and air freight.

On behalf of all carpet exporters, 80 percent of the expenditures of participation in international exhibitors should be sustained by the Trade Development Authority Pakistan (TDAP) whilst the rest of the 20 percent of the total expenditure will be held up by the exporters. Not only that, there should be a permanent income source for the carpet association to successfully run the sector said, Riaz Ahmed.

Furthermore, as Domotex Hannover’s 2021 exhibition had to be canceled due to Covid-19 and the exhibition held in 2022 will be done virtually on a digital platform, that means that there won’t be any physical set up. Therefore, the participants in the meeting were also made aware that TDAP has offered PCMEA the Netherlands as a potential client to do business in the carpet industry and will further proceed if PCMEA takes up the offer.

The members were also asked to share what they think of single country exhibitions and how can the carpet industry be recovered. One of the members, Faisal Saeed gave his insight on how single country exhibitions can benefit because of their workable condition. To take this further, the government will be soon requested to help PCMEA carry out single country exhibitions.
