Predatory pricing of imported textiles impact local Indonesian industry

An Indonesian minister said predatory pricing for imported textiles and garments was a threat to the domestic industry.

Indonesia’s Minister of Small, and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Teten Masduki added that the entry of the textile and apparel at cheaper rates made domestic products uncompetitive.

“He said that he had received inputs from the industry on this matter, particularly on those imported from China, which is affecting the industry as well as the wholesale and retail trade,” media reports informed.

“The inability of domestic textile products to compete has nothing to do with quality but is closely related to the Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) of the imported textiles and clothing.

“We need to check on the COGS of these imported products and I will follow it up with the ministry responsible for checking predatory pricing, as his ministry does not have the authority” the minister stated.
