Renewcell enters the Chinese market after signing up with CTA Green Fibre

Renewcell is a well-established Swedish firm that uses textile-to-textile recycling technology for making 100 percent recycled pulp, Circulose, from cotton-rich wastes like denim jeans and other clothing. This pulp is then supplied to its partners in sheet form. CTA Green Fibre, is a Chinese concern that manufactures wood-based lyocell at its mill inside the Henanese city of Xinjiang’s national economic and technological development zone, 8.5 kilometers from the urban center.

Swedish dissolving cellulose pulp manufacturer Renewcell signed a letter of intent with lyocell producer China Textile Academy Green Fibre (CTA Green Fibre) at Intertextile Apparel in Shanghai, as the first step towards a future legally binding offtake agreement.

According to the offtake agreement, the CTA Green Fibre will subsequently source 18,000 tonnes of Circulose over a five-year period, which will be used as a feedstock for its lyocell fibers. Renewcel’s exclusive global trading partner, Ekman, was instrumental in forging the agreement with CTA Green Fibre.

An official of CTA Green Fibre commenting on the deal acknowledged that Renewcell being an outstandingly innovative enterprise will provide sustainable and innovative materials for the fashion industry, with broad prospects. The commercial application of Circulose in the field of lyocell would be possible. The intent of both partners is to fully promote Circulose.”

Renewcell has already signed agreements to supply Circulose to other fibre developers including Austria’s Lenzing and Hebei-based Tangshan Sanyou. The net sales of Renewcell have jumped by 350 percent year on year in 2022.
