RMG workers staged a protest in N’ganj over layoffs, dues!

The garment workers are facing retrenchment and salary delays in most textile and apparel countries, even Bangladesh which is perhaps the only country that has kept its ready-made garments exports on a growth path.

On Tuesday workers of a factory situated in the Fatullah area of Nayananganj staged a protest against the removal of workers from the factory payroll without prior notice. They also demanded the payment of their two months’ arrears.

The workers belonging to Prime Textile Limited alleged that the factory authorities have given marching orders to 360 workers without giving them notice as required by law. The workers apprehended that another 650 workers are also marked for retrenchment. Workers were shocked to see factory closure notices on the gate as they came for work. After this, they started protesting.

The workers demanded immediate clearance of their dues. They warn that if arrears were not cleared forthwith they would be constrained to take tougher measures. The industrial police reached the spot and contacted the factory owner on receiving information about the protest.
