Sapphire Textile Mills has partnered with Good Earth Cotton to seed sustainable manufacturing practices in Pakistan. Good Earth Cotton is a producer of the World’s first carbon-positive and traceable cotton to introduce a collection of yarns and home interior fabrics. The partnership addresses increasing pressure on the global textile industry to substantiate sustainability claims, reduce environmental impact and take full accountability for fiber choices, especially in Pakistan, where the pollution levels are going up day by day.
Conventional cotton farming also contributes to climate change. This happens when excessive volumes of nitrate fertilizer and chemicals are applied to degraded soils. These soils have reduced carbon sequestration capacity, adding to the “greenhouse” effect. The unsustainably produced unethical cotton is then mixed into the global fashion cotton supply chain. As a result, the global cotton supply chain is tainted with “unethical and untraceable” cotton. This makes it very difficult for conscious consumers to buy ethically accountable cotton fashion.
On the other hand, Good Earth Cotton is independently certified as carbon positive, meaning its growth reduces carbon emissions in the atmosphere. Good Earth Cotton is carbon positive because our sustainable ecological, efficient farming production ensures that more carbon is sequestered into the soil and less carbon is released from other sources. Good Earth Cotton represents a giant sink which is a long-term sustainable solution to global warming.
