Superdry set to close 8 stores in the UK

Superdry is planning to shut down eight of its 104 UK stores this year, though its sponsors claim it is not aimed at cutting the cost.
Superdry is a well-known British fashion brand that specializes in producing casual clothing, accessories, and footwear for men and women. The brand was founded in 2003 by Julian Dunkerton and James Holder, with its headquarters located in Cheltenham, England.

Their clothing often combines quality materials with attention to detail and unique design features, setting them apart from many other fashion retailers. Superdry’s product range includes t-shirts, hoodies, jackets, jeans, dresses, accessories like bags and watches, and a variety of footwear. They aim to cater to fashion-conscious consumers who appreciate trendy, urban-inspired clothing with a touch of sophistication.

The retailer has shut five of its shops since May, in Ipswich, Luton, Telford, Lincoln and Stoke On Trent. Three more store closures are planned in 2023, one in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, and the others in unconfirmed locations. Back in March, the fashion brand revealed it had hired advisors to produce a cost-cutting plan, as it struggled to trade amid rising inflation.

The move came after Superdry saw its shares crash by more than a quarter over the year. However, the clothing retailer stressed that the move was not related to its cost-cutting measures revealed earlier in 2023. The majority of Superdry’s stores in the UK are operated directly by Superdry and there are no plans to close any of them at the present time said an official of the brand.
