Textile Exchange services of SGS now available in India

Following endorsement from the accreditation body, the International Organic Accreditation Service (IOAS) the testing, inspection, and certification company SGS is to extend its Textile Exchange product certification services to India.

SGS has been delivering these services across Spain since 2021, that includes Content Claim Standard (CCS) and Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) across a range of categories including textiles, leather, plastic, paper, and metal products.

The SGS also covers Organic Content Standard (OCS); Responsible Down Standard (RDS) and RAF (covering Responsible Wool Standard RWS, Responsible Mohair Standard RMS, and Responsible Alpaca Standard RAS) to the textile industry for any stage of the supply chain after the farm.



A spokesperson for SGS confirmed that its organization has gained IOAS accreditation to expand its global textile and footwear certification services to give the maximum local presence of SGS across India. SGS will now be able to provide organizations across the region with the tools and expertise to achieve their sustainable sourcing goals and demonstrate the precise recycled and organic content of their products.



The terms of the agreement state that SGS will provide the full spectrum of Textile Exchange certification services to manufacturers, traders, recyclers, and brands from its offices in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Gurgaon, Kolkata, Ludhiana, Mumbai, and Tirupur.

At the end of May, the IOAS lifted the suspension of organic cotton certification body Control Union (CU) India after which it was possible to sign an agreement with SGS.

CU India was suspended from testing and sampling Indian organic textile products in March because of irregularities in its certification process.
