Textile manufacturers adopt traceable denim production

Sustainability issues are now also being addressed in South Asia as they are making denim products with regenerative fibers – their sustainability claims are verifiable through FibreTrace’s physical traceability marker.

Two denim manufacturers, one in Karachi Pakistan, and the other in Dhaka Bangladesh have entered sustainability manufacturing recently. Karachi’s Artistic Denim is incorporating Good Earth Cotton which is a regenerative fiber in its products being produced by Diamond Denim.

Developed by the Australian cotton-growing family Statham’s, the cotton is fully traceable throughout its life cycle. The farmers use luminescent pigment solution at the farm-level, which is similar to the one used to secure currency and passports.

Ayesha Jan, the head of development and innovation at Artistic Apparels, the foreign buyers desired a system of accountability and transparency within our supply chains and we complied by offering sustainable and traceable products to them. The first collection of sustainable denim apparel traceable through FibreTrace-marked cotton will be ready by early this year.

Separately Beximco a Dhaka-based manufacturer stated that the company would be applying GOTS-approved pigment to all fibers it consumes that include cotton, recycled cotton, hemp, and recycled polyester fiber in spinning in December last. The yarns produced from these fibers would be available to the woven and knitwear apparel producers from this month.
