The Capacity Building program of BGMEA

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has signed an agreement to promote the workers’ capacity building, safety, and skills to enhance the country’s knowledge of future production leaders. The MOU was signed to establish a Centre for Innovation, Efficiency, and OSH (occupational safety and health).

The center will arrange vocational and on-the-job training for industrial and production planning engineering and textile engineering graduates from different country universities.

To transform local heritage into high-end fashion pieces with global appeal, a pilot program will be launched through the center under the supervision of a renowned fashion designer. The ultimate objective will be to create a brand story to redefine what it means to purchase from Bangladesh and increase digital presence on social media platforms. The initiative will endeavor to build the capacity of the mid-level management and workforce of the factories in the relevant field.

Such sort of training and capacity-building programs are necessary for a country’s skilled force build-up. Unfortunately, Pakistan’s textile industry also lacks such OSH training. Workers are not aware of safety rules, regulations, and ways to avoid accidents. The ministry of Commerce Pakistan and Industrialists should also learn from Bangladesh’s model.
