Vietnam garment sector optimistic for 2023

Textile activities in Vietnam are gradually increasing as more export orders pour in. The garment producers are actively recruiting additional workers, particularly the ones that are skilled to fulfill the high-quality garment orders.

According to the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), based on current interest shown by western buyers it expects textile exports from Vietnam to reach $45-47 billion in 2023.

VITAS chairman Vu Duc Giang says that most of the garment exporters expect that the apparel market will recover in the second and third quarters of this year after which the orders would start rising again.

The VITAS chairman said that Vietnam emerged as a preferred sourcing destination on the strength of its advanced programs on sustainable development, green initiatives, circular economy, and sustainable development. The brands he added are returning in large numbers. This trend has prompted several companies to resume production after the long Lunar New Year holidays.

In one instance 12000 workers have joined the work at the Garment 10 Corporation. The Corporation has set an export target of $190 million for this year. It intends to add another 800 workers to its production facility. In the meantime, the textile sector is making efforts to reduce dependence on imports and increase the use of domestic raw materials. The VITAS reveals that the localization of garments and textiles has increased to 49 percent. The entrepreneurs aim to take it to 55 percent by 2025.
