APTMA received a presentation on textile sector and its issues relating to energy supply.
The matter was discussed in detail in the meeting with Mr Syed Ali Zafar, minister of energy.
In the meeting the minister notified the participants that he is determined to facilitate the industry with in the mandate of caretaker government for the growth and development of textile sector.
APTMA reps demanded textiles facilitations to be provided to Pakistan like Bangladesh. They further compared energy distribution in Pakistan to India and Bangladesh where it is provided at much cheaper rates.
APTMA requested gas prices to be same throughout the country for the textile sector and it should be calculated through Weighted Average Cost of Gas formula (WACG) but due to Article 158 of the constitution pending in the Supreme Court the implementation yet is not possible.
They further requested the gas quota system to be increased but due to gas shortage that too is not possible for the time being.
The minister suggested the delegates to hold meetings with concerned departments to draft viable proposals which may minimize challenges confronted by textile sector.
