One year ago, the Lenzing company started an environmental initiative to replace the Hidden Plastic in Wet Wipes called “ItsInOurHands”. A large share of wet wipes contains fossil-based plastic, which, if disposed of incorrectly, can pollute the environment for centuries. In an online survey conducted by the Marketagent institute: Only around 16% of the consumers were aware of suspect fossil-based plastic in wet wipes. However, nine out of ten participants stated that they would change their purchasing behaviour.
On the completion of one year, Lenzing showed that the #ItsInOurHands environmental initiative has significantly contributed to the more conscious handling of wet wipes. ItsInOurHands Community is fast-tracking a change in the way producers think.
Lenzing produces a biodegradable and compostable raw material named VEOCEL™ (cellulose fibre-based wet wipes) to replace plastic-based wet wipes. The company is generating greater awareness and transparency for the materials in wet wipes and show that there are alternatives to fossil-based products.
