Bangladesh RMG maintains growth across markets

Though the exports of apparel during July-November increased by modest 4.07 percent to $3.47 billion, Bangladesh’s exports to the European Union (EU) clocked four times higher growth of 16.27 percent during the same period.

Statistics released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) of Bangladesh reveal that exports of RMG to EU increased during July- November jumped to $9.07 billion compared with exports of $7.81 billion during the corresponding period of 2021.

Germany retained the top importer of RMG from Bangladesh with importing apparel worth $2.71 during the period under review. But the growth when compared with corresponding period of last year was modest1.88 percent.

The highest growth of 50.59 percent during this period was attained in Italy, it was followed by a growth of 48.87 percent in Austria, 38.87 percent in France, 34.39 percent in Netherlands and 22.90 percent in Sweden. Spain recorded a growth of 19.15 percent while the RMG growth declined by 19.61 percent in Poland.

The Director of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Mohiuddin Rubel was satisfied with the performance of Bangladesh’s RMG sector to major countries under the prevailing global scenario.

Outside the EU and United States Bangladesh’s RMG exports increased by 11.71 percent to Canada and by 30.25 percent to the UK. There was encouraging growth in RMG exports in non-traditional markets from $2.27 billion to $3.19 billion.

Bangladesh’s export to Japan reached 597.83 million dollars with 38.11 percent during the period under review, while in other tradition markets the growth in exports was 30.35 percent in South Korea, 44.53 percent in Brazil, 48.78 percent in India, 49.68 percent in Mexico and 100.15 percent in Malaysia.
