Coach and Kate Spade brands owner the US apparel firm Tapestry, has announced new sustainability targets according to its Corporate Responsibility Report 2022.
The new target includes the reduction of Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions based on scientific analyses by 42.5 percent against a 2021 baseline by the end of the decade. The company announced that in one year it has been able to reduce GHG emissions by five percent. The reduction was largely achieved by shifting to renewable energy in its own operations.
The emission targets have been submitted to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) for validation. The ultimate goal is to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. A new Fabric of Change Strategy was introduced 10th annual Corporate Responsibility Report of the company. It includes targets on sourcing more ‘preferred’ raw materials and improving manufacturing processes.
Among the sustainability goals is to reduce water use by lower than the 2018 level in the company’s own operations and by 10 percent across its supply chain. Tapestry also aims to map 95 percent of its raw materials.
The Tapestry Foundation partnered with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) under a $3 million agreement to develop an industry-wide standard to certify deforestation and conversion-free (DCF) leather from Brazil.
