National Textile Day 2023- Bangladeshi government takes keen interest in its textile sector

The keen interest that the Bangladeshi government takes in its textile sector has kept the country much above its competitors. It is the only country that has posted growth in the current global recession.

The Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina has advised the ready-made garment sector to keep pace with the global trends in the apparel sector. Addressing the participants on National Textile Day 2022, she said that the RMG sector must know which design and trend is most popular in Bangladesh’s export market.

Going further she reminded them that not all designs are popular in all countries.

Some countries prefer unique designs. Our exporters must address their needs and demands. Moreover, Sheikh Hasina pleaded with the exporters to look for new markets as well besides concentrating on their existing markets.

“They, who are working with garments and their exports, will have to find new markets. Newer products will have to be produced keeping in mind that the choices vary with different countries,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina also inaugurated six textile educational institutes in six districts, from her official Ganabhaban residence in Dhaka through a video conference. The function was organized by The Ministry of Textiles and Jute in Dhaka.

Sheikh Hasina fashion and designs are constantly changing and those that go with the going trends reap the benefits Sheikh Hasina said that designers in Bangladesh should come up with fresh ideas. They must as well mix new ideas with historical traditional textiles. Sheikh Hasina appreciated that the university of fashion and design has been established by the private sector that is preparing skilled manpower for the industry.

The newly inaugurated six textile institutes include Sheikh Rehana Textile Engineering College in Gopalganj, Shahid Abdur Rob Serniabat Textile Institute, Gouronodi, Sheikh Russel Textile Institute, Jamalpur Barishal, Begum Amina Mansur Textile Engineering Institute, Sirajganj Shahid Kamaruzzaman Textile Institute, Naogaon, and Bhola Textile Institute.

The textiles and jute minister handed over honorary awards on behalf of the prime minister to 10 persons and institutions including BGMEA, BKMEA, BTMEA, and Bangladesh University of Textiles.
