Unemployment across the euro area continued to ease in July 2025, with the seasonally adjusted jobless rate falling to 6.2 percent. This marks an improvement from 6.3 percent in June and 6.4 percent in the same month last year. In the wider European Union, the unemployment rate dropped to 5.9 percent, compared with 6.0 percent in both June 2025 and July 2024.

0 million people were unemployed in the EU in July, including nearly 10.8 million in the euro area. Compared with the previous month, unemployment fell by 165,000 in the EU and 170,000 in the euro area. Year-on-year, the number of unemployed declined by 105,000 across the EU and 161,000 in the euro area.
Youth unemployment also showed signs of improvement. About 2.8 million people under the age of 25 were unemployed in the EU, of which 2.2 million were in the euro area.
The youth unemployment rate dropped to 14.4 percent in the EU and 13.9 percent in the euro area, both slightly lower than in June.
The gender breakdown revealed a gradual narrowing of unemployment gaps. Female unemployment in the EU stood at 6.0 percent in July, down from 6.1 percent the previous month, while in the euro area it fell to 6.4 percent from 6.5 percent. Male unemployment remained stable at 5.8 percent in the EU but eased to 6.1 percent in the euro area, compared with 6.2 percent in June.
