In a major breakthrough for global textile collaboration, the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA) and the Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (ABIT) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the NCI Pavilion, Blue Zone, COP30 in Belém, Brazil.
The agreement establishes a long-term strategic partnership focused on:
- Sourcing sustainable Brazilian cotton for Pakistan’s textile value chain
- Expanding Pakistan’s apparel exports to Brazil and international markets
- Strengthening sustainability, circularity, and climate-aligned growth
- Driving joint innovation, knowledge exchange, and advocacy under the International Apparel Federation (IAF)
The MoU was signed by Fernando V. Pimentel, CEO of ABIT, and Dr. Muhammad Ayyaz Uddin, Chairman (NZ) PRGMEA, in the presence of global industry leaders and climate stakeholders — highlighting the agreement’s international significance.
PRGMEA is participating in COP30 as an Observer Organization, representing Pakistan’s apparel sector at the world’s leading climate forum. Its delegation is actively engaging in discussions on decarbonizing textile manufacturing, scaling renewable energy, promoting biodiesel, biochar, VPPAs, advancing circularity, and unlocking green financing.
Dr. Ayyaz stated that the partnership strengthens PRGMEA’s mission to build a national climate and sustainability agenda in collaboration with government, academia, and industry, ensuring Pakistan’s textiles stay competitive, responsible, and future-ready.
Former PRGMEA Chairman and CM/ZMC Member Ijaz A. Khokhar added that the MoU will accelerate delegation exchanges, fashion design collaboration, and closer engagement between the textile sectors of both countries.
The agreement signals a shared Pakistan–Brazil vision for sustainable sourcing, responsible manufacturing, and climate-resilient growth — opening new avenues for Pakistan’s manufacturers, exporters, and the broader textile ecosystem.
