Africa as a strong trading partner for Pakistan as we reach US $ 4.18 billion in 2019-20

Due to the “Look Africa Campaign” initiated by the government between Pakistan and African countries; An increment of 7% has been recorded between Pakistan’s trade with African countries as we touched US $ 4.18 billion in 2019-20. Overall, total trade with Africa has increased from US $ 3.19 billion in 2016-17 to US $ 4.18 billion in 2019-20 said, Abdul Razak Dawood, Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment.

“We are planning to enhance exports of Pharmaceuticals, Surgical goods and Light Engineering and Electronic products including Tractors and Agricultural implements, two and three wheelers, Commercial and Domestic Fans, Water pumps and Electrical Machinery and equipment etc. We are taking different initiatives including six new Commercial Sections have been opened in Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Senegal, Sudan and Tanzania, in addition to four existing Commercial Sections in Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa, to cover top ten economies of Africa”, he further stated.

Pakistan also have our eyes set on Kenya and Tanzania market and the government is fully planning on utilizing the potential markets by increasing exports to Kenya which resulted in US $ 289.3 million in 2019-20. Pakistan total trade with Tanzania has reached US $ 194.58 million in 2019-20, as compared to US $ 136.52 million in 2018-19, hence making Tanzania an important trade partner.

The Look Africa Trade Development Conference in Kenya indicates strengthening bilateral trade relations between the two countries which in turn will automatically increase the trade percentage between the two countries says Abdul Razak Dawood.
