An increasing trend in rate is detected in this brief weekly cotton review

The requirement of cotton is increasing day by day as textile sector is also operating on full speed due to the incoming orders from the international market hence, an increasing trend in cotton rate can be seen. However, the 50% reduction in the production of cotton in the country is very concerning. Moreover, if the government does not take any action soon then the cotton production will soon dwindle down to nothing.

For cotton rate brief: The rate of cotton in Sindh is in between Rs 8800 to Rs 10,200 per maund. The rate of Phutti is in between Rs 3800 to Rs 4700 per 40 Kg. The rate of cotton in Punjab is in between Rs 9500 to Rs 10,400 per maund. The rate of Phutti is in between Rs 3800 to Rs 5100 per 40 Kg. In Balochistan there was limited stock of cotton was left. The rate of cotton in Balochistan is in between Rs 9200 to 9600 per maund meanwhile premium quality cotton of Balochistan is available at Rs 10800 per maund. Over all, the rate remained stable.

Due to the increased orders, the textile sector has no option but to import cotton from abroad to complete the orders and for this, government has offered help in the form of free duty fee on cotton yarn import. However, land of cotton crop cultivation is gradually decreasing in the south of Punjab and to resolve this issue, the government needs to subsidy of Rs 25000 per acer to the cotton growers.
