Baldwin’s precision systems for sustainable textiles

Mr. Rick Stanford, Baldwin’s Vice President of Global Business Development for Textile Technology, spoke about Baldwin’s precision spray systems for sustainable moisture and finishing chemistry textile manufacturing. The textile industry’s history is tainted with a reputation of environmental pollution and waste. Nevertheless, as the industry moves towards a more sustainable future, Baldwin Technology champions that cause with solutions to make sustainability a reality. Baldwin assists textile manufacturers, brands, and retailers in reaching their sustainability goals and enabling them to be responsible stewards of the planet.
Mr. Rick Standord talked about TexCoat™ and other technologies. In operation, the TexCoat™ uses a precision spray application system to evenly apply water or chemistries to one or both sides of a moving web roll of fabric or other material, using an application system that spans the width of the web with evenly spaced spray nozzles. This “non-contact” method of applying liquids to surfaces is highly efficient and eco-friendly because the minimum required amount of water or chemistries can be used.

The benefits of using such systems include:

  • Up to a 50% reduction in the amount of water or chemistries used in the production.
  • Up to 50% reduction in their energy consumption.
  • Substantial time savings – drying time is eliminated, production times are sped up, and the system is quick and easy to service and maintain.

Mr. Rick Standord said that the industry is shifting to sustainable technologies, and public awareness is one of the driving factors causing a green shift in how the textile brands play. Furthermore, he said that the textile industry is serious about imparting sustainability in their systems.
