Bangladesh seeks Chinese investment in producing high value-added garments

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has urged the Chinese apparel industry to invest in Bangladesh to produce high-value-added apparel items.

However, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan who is on a visit to China, urged them not to relocate old factories to Bangladesh as old machineries consume high energy and harm the environment.

Hassan is visiting Chinese garment factories in a bid to attract investment in the Bangladesh garment industry.

“Chinese garment manufacturers are eager to invest in sports and athleisure apparel in Bangladesh as the latter is still lagging behind in production of such items of high demand,” Hassan added

Hassan stated that Bangladesh focuses more on environment-friendly production systems and the adoption of modern technologies that have higher production capacity.

He also added that Chinese garment producers are also interested in supplying their designs and technologies to Bangladeshi apparel manufacturers.
