BGMEA keen to support women’s and children’s education

Bangladesh’s ready-made garment sector is fulfilling its corporate social responsibility by supporting the backward section of society, particularly by creating opportunities for women in attaining higher education.

President Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and exporters Association Faruque Hassan stated this during the visit of Eminent Rabindra Sangeet exponent Rezwana Choudhury to BRGMEA to seek support in nurturing the slum children with education and life-changing competencies and skills. She informed that her organization Shurer Dhara aims to change the life of slum children living in Dhaka by imparting education and skills to them. The BGMEA president gave a positive response in facilitating and supporting the resourceless children enrolled in the Music Development Project.

He said that BGMEA is particularly supporting downtrodden members of society. He said numerous higher education opportunities have been created for the higher education of female garment workers. He said BGMEA collaborated with the Asian University for women to impart higher education to girls engaged in garment factories. He said at the moment 90 female workers are pursuing higher studies at Asian University for Women.

In addition, the trade association is operating five schools for workers’ children in Chittagong, Ghazipur, and Dhaka. These schools provide free books and study materials to all students besides giving stipends to meritorious Students
